The montage of "Komissar" coincided with the end of the Six-Day War, and since Askoldov refused to change the ethnic origin of the Jewish family, he condemned himself to official ostracism until, thanks to the expansion of perestroika, the Berlin Film Festival projected it in 1987, where it collected the Special Prize of the Jury and of the Critic (FIPRESCI). "Komissar" was the first, and only, film of Askoldov, who survived thanks to sporadic works on television.
