The action takes place at the end of the war. Junior lieutenant Maleshkin, who has just graduated from military academy, is appointed as the commander of a tank. His crew are experienced tank drivers, who have seen many battles. The new commander has never participated in an attack, and has only dreamed about real war, genuinely believing that what is “difficult in training is easy in battle”. But the war turns out to be more terrifying than he could imagine…
