The NEP years. A young telegraph operator who lives in the depths of the taiga, dreams of going to Moscow. Reading the dots and dashes on the paper ribbons, she discovers the great changes that are taking place in the country and is less and less satisfied with her life. She finally manages to realize her dream: she goes to Moscow where she is enthusiastic about the passion with which young people are building the city. When she returns home, the young girl realizes that in her distant region by the river, a huge construction site has begun.
And again the dots and dashes follow one another in the telegraph, but the young girl now realizes that her work is part of the great collective work.
