In a small American town in the 19th century, Cedric, an 8-year-old boy, lives with his mother, a modest music teacher. Their friends appreciate Cedric for his good heart and his sense of justice and Cedric likes the memories of his father whom he never knew. One day he learns that far away, beyond the ocean, in a huge English estate, lives an old count, in whose house there is a portrait identical to the portrait of a young officer who is at his mother's house.
