The first Soviet color animated film made using P.M. Mershin’s three-color system.
The animated film *The Fox and the Wolf* was produced in 1936 at the Mosfilm studio and was successfully screened across the country before the war. During the film's restoration, it was discovered that the final color sequence had not survived. Not even a black-and-white copy could be found; however, the soundtrack and the editing log were preserved. Thanks to these materials, restoration specialists were able to reconstruct the color version of the film and bring the fairy tale virtually to its conclusion.
It is worth noting that Sarra Mokil gave the fairy tale a creative twist. For instance, to make transporting the calf easier, the fox skillfully saws wheels for a cart out of a tree stump; and when the gray wolf eats the calf, nothing remains but a deflated shell—like a rubber toy—rather than skin and bones.
