Né à Lougansk (ville d'Ukraine qui alors faisait partie de l'Empire russe), Alexandre Ptouchko a commencé sa carrière comme journaliste et décorateur pour le théâtre et à partir de 1927 pour le cinéma. De 1932 à 1949, il a été professeur au VGIK (Institut national de la cinématographie) et directeur de la Faculté des Arts.
Décédé le 6 mars 1973 à Moscou.
Artiste du Peuple de l’Union Soviétique depuis 1969.

Родился 19 апреля 1900 г. в Луганске. С 1919 г. — зав. школой-семилеткой с. Камышеваха в Донбассе, затем — инструктор культотдела Донецкого райкома металлистов в Артемовске. В 1923-1926 гг. учился в Московском институте народного хозяйства, был секретарем орготдела Союза Строителей в Москве. Работал корреспондентом, актером, декоратором. С 1927 г. — режиссер, художник-мультипликатор, художник комбинированных съемок к/с "Мосфильм". В 1944-1946 гг. — директор к/с "Союзмультфильм". В 1932-1949 гг. — и. о. профессора ВГИКа, зав. кафедрой художественного факультета. Народный артист СССР (1969). Умер 6 марта 1973 г. в Москве.
