Born on August 16, 1943 in Batumi (Soviet Georgia); his father was an actor in the city's theater.
Georgian theater and film actor
In 1965, he graduated from the Rustaveli Theater Institute in Tbilisi, Faculty of Actors (course of A. Tavzarachvili).
In 1966, he joined the troupe of the Rustaveli Theater in Tbilisi. There he achieved the feat of playing three roles in the play "Richard III": the king, the bishop and the jester.
He made his film debut in 1965. Until 2017, he appeared in 26 films and TV series. Notable roles in "Le Repentir" (1984), "13. Tzameti" (2005) by Guéla Bablouani, "Tous sont parti" (2013) by Guéorgui Paradjanov, "Hostages" (2017) by Rezo Guiguinishvili - a Georgian-Polish-French co-production.
A curiosity: in 2005, he played Stalin in the BBC's 3-part mini-series "Archangel" (based on the novel by Robert Harris / 1998) with Daniel Craig as the star.
