Russian writer, literary scholar, expert on cinema, painting and music, author of many monographs on artists, journalist, screenwriter.
Studied at the screenwriting department of VGIK (1939-1941).
In 1941, without graduating from the institute, he went to the front. Participant of the Great Patriotic War.
After being wounded, he worked as a war correspondent for the Trud newspaper.
Published collections of "Before the Holiday" (1960), "Far and Close" (1965), "The Lanes of My Childhood" (1971), "The Island of Love" (1977), "The River of Heraclitus" (1984); stories "A Trip to the Islands" (1986), "Get Up and Go" (1987) and others.
One of the most screenplayed writers. In cinema since 1956, his first script was "Guest from Kuban". His last work was a video about Sergei Rachmaninov (1994).
He is buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
