Nikolai has lost a lot of money gambling, but does not want to pay his debts because he feels he has been cheated. His creditor sends him two killers, Melkum and Guiria. Nikolai escapes them and runs away.
He arrives late in the evening, in a village, at the home of an old man who recognizes his little nephew in him and declares that now he can die in peace, because he has found his heir. Melkum and Guiria find Nikolai at the funeral meal. Nikolai tells them that he is the heir to a treasure. The will will be made public on the seventh day after the death by a monk. Melkum and Guiria are instructed to wait for this seventh day without taking their eyes off either the monk or the heir. But the seventh day will change everything...
