Plot synopsis
Petrograd, 1920. Although Sophia and Trofim Ivanytch have been married for a long time, she has never been able to bear him a child; he finds this unforgivable. Desperately afraid of losing her husband, Sophia agrees to adapt on orphan: a thirteen-year-old girl. Years later, the adolescent becomes Trofim’s mistress. As the waters of the Neva break their banks and flood the city, Sophia’s despair turns to hatred. She must get rid of this intruder to return the man she loves...
