The film tells the story of the life and exploits of Pyotr Markovich Kochka, a hero of the defense of Sevastopol during the Crimean War. His cheerful, tragic and lively adventures reflect the history of the Crimean War, and more broadly, the history of Russia. A character who managed to steal a leg of beef from the pot of unfriendly soldiers, catch an enemy commander with a basket, and neutralize a cannonball with kasha, cannot leave anyone indifferent.
