Joseph Schweik is a Czech dog dealer. He was discharged from the army as an idiot, but was nevertheless mobilized during the First World War. Despite his kindness and naivety, everyone teased him. He was "sold" from one officer to another, but always managed to overcome obstacles and survived the massacres of the war.
