The management of the collective farm decides to release Makary Zadorozhnyj from the presidency and send him to a sanatorium. Makary is no longer young and knows that the fruits of his labor will not disappear – the succession is assured.
At the same time, the new chairman is elected Makary's son, who has just graduated from the Agricultural Institute. Inexperienced but presumptuous, Sashko, refusing any advice, runs the enterprise in such a way that it threatens to collapse. This bad news quickly reaches Makary, who, interrupting his treatment, returns to his beloved village at the very moment when his son decides to leave for the city. But the director orders Sashko to stay at the collective farm and do what is necessary to correct all the mistakes made.
