12-year-old Marina runs away from home: she wants to find a way to cure her dog Taya—her only true friend—who hasn't eaten or drunk for two weeks. Marina finds Dr. Gaf, a reclusive veterinarian with an unusual gift: he can communicate with animals. Gaf manages to cure Taya, but that night she is kidnapped along with the other dogs—the inhabitants of Dr. Gaf's shelter. Behind this is a company that needs homeless animals for illegal experiments. Gaf and Marina set out to find their furry friends. A variety of animals will help them, from pigeons and rats to a boa constrictor and a skunk.
