Joël chapron takes stock of the Russian film year 2023. He shows that the film industry is not doing so badly, but that "from the point of view of State control at all levels - scriptwriting, production, distribution, exhibition - it can be said that censorship (and self-censorship!) is practised at all levels".

The 1st “Mayak” Contemporary Russian Film Festival, created by Roman Abramovich's Kinoprime Fund in Gelendzhik, on the Black Sea coast in Russia, will take place from October 5 to 9, 2023.

The Kinotavr festival in Sochi, which was due to take place from 13 to 20 September, will not be taking place. The organisers have announced that the event has been postponed indefinitely.

The board and members of the association Les Amis du Festival du Cinéma Russe à Honfleur, meeting on 28 February 2022, have unanimously decided to suspend the organisation of the Russian Film Festival planned for November in Honfleur. In the current situation, the Association cannot envisage organising a cultural event with Russia.

In 2022, only the "On Line" Festival was able to take place: The "In theaters" festival was canceled on its opening day, following demonstrations against the screening of certain films deemed "anti-Russian" by the demonstrators.
