Plot synopsis
About the famous Russian poet Andrei Bely (1880-1934).

“A star-crossed genius” and “a vain poser,” “the new Gogol” and “a hysterical windbag”—this is how contemporaries described one of the most striking and influential figures of the Silver Age, the poet and thinker Andrei Bely (also known as Boris Bugaev). This man’s unique fate is revealed in the film through a masterful montage of silent film clips from that era. The film features scenes from films by Bauer and Gardin, Evans and Cavalcanti, Lang’s famous “Metropolis,” and Protazanov’s “Aelita.” Against this backdrop, a dramatic chain of the poet’s love stories unfolds. In his search for his “Fair Lady,” he tragically finds himself caught in love triangles: first with Blok and his wife Lyubov Mendeleeva, and later with his own wife, Asya Turgeneva, and the mystic Rudolf Steiner. The authors’ skill allows them to reveal, through the private life of Boris Bugaev, the worldview of the poet Andrei Bely and the very emotional makeup of the people of that era.
