Evgeny Pavlovich Adamov was a general of the tsarist army, after the Revolution, alone after the death of his wife and son, he lives in a small town on the border of Russia and Belarus. It is there that he learns about the attempted assassination of Lenin. The "Red Terror" follows, the general is arrested and must endure the betrayal of a friend and make a fundamental choice: to remain a man of honor and die or to betray his conscience and live.
