A film adaptation of the novella of the same name by Doyvber Levin.
Fedka is the son of the village council chairman. The boy witnesses the White Guards' massacre of his father, but Fedka manages to escape. The orphaned boy becomes a son of the Budyonny regiment, learning to read and write and military discipline.
