The film tells about the education of children.
A worker's son trains a dog. He never leaves his dog, neither at school nor in his Pioneer troop.
At the same time, the somewhat degenerate son of a doctor is shown coddling his prized purebred dog, teaching it all sorts of tricks.
The analogy between the trained working dog and the doctor's dog is curious. The first, "Joy," is trained in ways that make her socially useful and truly helpful to people. The second dog only knows how to dance and serve. This core develops an interesting intrigue in the relationship between the children, ultimately leading to Joy saving the doctor's son by pulling him off the tracks just in time.
The scenes of lessons with the governess, whom the doctor, a proponent of individual education methods, assigned to his son, are interestingly shown. The ending of the film is very risky in its plot and ideological tendencies – the doctor becomes a proponent of collective education, sends his son to school, etc.
