The young and mischievous peasant-serf Minzguir is sent to the army by his masters and is enlisted in the regiment of the guards of Saint Petersburg. Resourceful and cheerful, he fulfills his military obligations very well. But one day bad news arrives from his campaign, and Minzguir looks for a way to help his family and his fiancée. While he is on guard in front of a famous icon of Our Lady of Kazan, Minzguir decides to break the glass that protects the icon and to take one of the precious stones that surround it. When it is discovered that the stolen stone is in his possession, Minzguir does not hesitate to affirm that it was Our Lady of Kazan who gave it to him.
