In 1914, Marc Chagall returned from Paris to his hometown of Vitebsk and celebrated his marriage to his first wife Bella. Shortly after, the First World War and the October Revolution broke out which completely transformed and disrupted the city, but Chagall set up an Art school and invited Malevich to it. He immediately accepted and began to teach young local painters Suprematism and the link with the cosmos through painting, at the same time removing students from Chagall. At the same time, Naoum, a failed poet who has become a Red Commissioner, is courting Bella. Somewhere in the distance rumbles the civil war, Trotsky goes by train to Vitebsk without practically stopping, all occupied in the affairs of the revolution, and the duel between the two great painters invades not only the earth and the sky, but even the Cosmos .
