The film is based on the famous play by Alexander Galich The Silence of the Sailor.
It is a story of love, betrayal and forgiveness. In the 1930s, David, a talented young violinist, leaves his village to study in Moscow. There he finds love and, after a few happy years, success. His father comes to Moscow to witness it: but faced with his son's attitude, who is ashamed of his father's poverty and lack of culture, he leaves immediately. A time will come when David will understand the value of a father's love.
