A young couple with a baby still at the breast visits their elderly parents who live in a hard-to-reach village in Yakutia. Suddenly their child falls ill with dysentery. The village lacks the necessary medicine, the telephone line is cut off, and the roads are impassable due to spring floods. The young father, Vanya, then decides to go to the city himself on foot to request a medical flight, but the journey is long and dangerous.
