He studied at Moscow University at the Faculty of Law (1913-17), at VKhUTEMAS. In 1918-29 he worked as an investigator in various institutions in Lipetsk, Tambov and Moscow. In 1920 he was chairman of the Tambov Criminal Investigation Commission, in 1921-23 he was deputy head of the Moscow Sokolniki Correctional Department. At the same time he worked in various art studios. From 1929 - in animation, until 1936 he worked with A.V. Ivanov, then - on his own. He was a member of the IVVOS group (originally - IVVOSAZHI). Participated in the development and application of the method of drawn sound "Ivvoston". In 1936-50 - at the Soyuzmultfilm film studio (with a break in 1943-48 - at the Voentekhfilm studio). He worked with the artists V. Bochkarev, Y. Reitman, in 1941-43 - in tandem with the director L. Bredis.
