Born August 7, 1982 in Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. Kazakh film director and screenwriter.
In 2009, he graduated from the Faculty of Directing at the National Academy of Arts and in 2011, he shot his first feature film, "The Real Estate Agent."
His third film, "The Owners" (2013), premiered in the official program of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The film received several awards and was shortlisted for the Asian Film Academy Award.
His next film, "The Plague in the Karatas Aul" (2016), received the Petras Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival and established Yerzhanov as one of the leading directors of contemporary Kazakh cinema.
In 2015, he directed the documentary "History of Kazakh Cinema" at the Busan Film Festival.
Noted by critics in France for its formal beauty and its subject matter, his film "The Tender Indifference of the World" (2018) was screened at several major international festivals (Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard section, Bergen International Film Festival, Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Tokyo International Film Festival 2018, etc.).
Adilkhan Yerzhanov was the subject of a "Focus" at L'Étrange Festival 2018.
