Emil Lotianou was born on November 6, 1936 in the village of Sekouriani in the Bukovina mountains. From 1953 to 1955 he studied at the Theater School of MXAT (Moscow Theater). In 1962 he received a diploma as a director from the VGIK (National Institute of Cinematography), where he was a student of G. Rochal and Y. Guenika. He wrote stories and poems.
