Not far from Dalnye Zelentsy, on the shores of the Barents Sea, there is a string of islands classified as a bird sanctuary that are very rarely visited by humans. This is because during the short northern summer, a considerable number of diverse species come to nest there. It is strictly forbidden to stay in these places so as not to disturb the peace of the birds. The Gavrilov Islands are the kingdom of many bird colonies where the calm of the nights contrasts with the deafening din of the gulls and guillemots during the day. It is there, at the end of the world, that Nikolai Eliseev, the keeper of the Kandalaksha nature reserve for over forty years already, lives. During all these years, he has experienced all sorts of adventures that he shares with us.
