Plot synopsis

Young and pretty Lydia works in a military hospital during World War II; she treats a wounded general and falls in love with him. After the end of the war, they get married. He works at the USSR Ministry of Defense, they love each other and everything in their life begins to fall into place. Lydia is very happy to have a new family because she is an orphan.
One day, they are invited to the theater. Just before they go out, the phone rings: the general is urgently summoned to the Ministry. Lydia goes to the show alone. While she is on her way home, she is jostled by a stranger who later turns out to be a soldier in her husband's service. He asks her to calm down and not to go home because, at the same time, soldiers are searching their apartment, following the arrest of the general. Shocked, Lydia cannot come to her senses and the soldier takes her to his house.
