The old Russian slogan "be sober" means, look at the world with lucidity, with a clear head, judge it at its true value, prepare yourself for trials.
A drunken Russia, a countryside that is dying, sinking into alcoholism... the authors of the film hope to find a way out of this impasse. A countryside far from everything, an ordinary Orthodox parish in one of the poorest entities of the Federation that the authors of the film have been observing chronologically for more than ten years give them reasons to hope.
In this society, very different people find themselves; almost all of them in the past were alcoholics. "Finished" people. Their salvation is here. If it were not for this village in its reality, with this temple, they would all have already died. Not in a figurative sense, nor in the form of an allegory, but in the original sense of the word.
Each of the characters in the film has suffered failures, has been a real shipwreck in the outside world. Very different, only a genuine faith unites them, their humility and a simple joy towards life in this almost wild world.
