Plot synopsis

"Don, Patrons and Worshippers" is one of the films of the "Dark Kingdom" project, which includes three other films: "The Forest", "Agree Between Yourself" and "Mad Money". The project is interesting not only for its new interpretation of these well-known comedies by Alexander Ostrovsky (a modern interpretation by the mind, it nevertheless gives a surprisingly accurate impression of the era), but also for the opportunity to discover wonderful actors, unknown to the majority of cinema-goers. The premiere of the comedy "Don, Patrons and Worshippers" took place on December 20, 1991 at the Maly Theatre in Moscow. The film adaptations of the play were the 1956 film with Tatiana Lennikova, Pavel Kadochnikov, Boris Smirnov, Konstantin Skorobogatov, Yevgeny Lebedev, Nikolai Trofimov (directors: Andrei Apsolon and Boris Dmokhovsky; the 1973 film with Svetlana Pelikovskaïa, Olga Khorkova, Leonid Gubanov and Pavel Kadochnikov (director: Isidore Annensky).
