The film tells the story of the film studio created by the Russian emigration in Montreuil, France in the 1920s and 1930s and its producer Alexandre Kamenka who opened the studio's doors not only to emigrant filmmakers but also to young French directors who later became classics of world cinema and inventors of a new cinematic language: René Clair, Jean Renoir, Jacques Feyder, Jacques Epstein.
