It is the time of the NEP (early 20s). A wealthy kulak owns an inn where his daughter-in-law Tanka works. The girl becomes friends with a pioneer and dreams of joining the pioneer movement.
To distract the youth from drinking establishments, the Komsomol teacher Sestrine organizes a theatrical group of pioneers and Komsomols. The owner of the inn convinces the thug Sevka to kill the teacher. But Tanka overheard their conversation and denounces the plan of her father-in-law who will be arrested and Tanka will be admitted to the pioneer movement.
