Based on the story of the same name by Chekhov. Thirty-year-old statistician Ivan Ognev must return from the district to the capital. He is leaving the estate of the district council chairman, Kuznetsov, where he often visited during his long business trip. As he bids farewell to Ognev, the landowner's daughter, Verochka Kuznetsova, declares her love for him.
