In a forest, not far from a small town, the body of a young girl, Elli, was found. Her sister Klara is devastated and Norton, the mayor of the town, who promised to shed light on this tragedy, takes special care to comfort Klara. Gradually, a true love is born between Klara and Norton and the two young people get married. Klara is worried about Norton's behavior, who ends up confiding in her. It is he who, unintentionally, is responsible for Elli's death: meeting the young girl by chance in the forest and struck by her resemblance to his sister whom he already secretly loved, he tries to seduce her by force, Elli falls and is mortally injured. Klara rushes to the police but at the last moment gives up and turns back. It is too late, Norton, not having obtained his wife's forgiveness, has committed suicide.
