2025. Markel Martynov, director of the Yakut Tundra animation studio, has become a member of the European Film Academy. Markel Martynov graduated from the Verkhnevilyuysk village school, then went to Novosibirsk and enrolled in the agricultural university. During his studies, he became interested in computer animation. After receiving his master's degree, he moved to Moscow and began his doctoral thesis. In 2016, he landed a job at a computer game development company and, at the same time, began working on animated films. In 2022, Markel was invited to his homeland, to the newly opened Tundra Studio. He worked on the studio's first project, the animated film "Kholod Byk," which subsequently received numerous awards at Russian and foreign film festivals.
The European Film Academy was founded in 1988 on the initiative of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. Since May 1, 2024, it has been headed by French actress Juliette Binoche. Each year, the Academy hosts the European Film Awards, also known as the "European Oscars."
