Biography
Musician, composer, film director. Born on February 13, 1987 in the village of Kayasula, Neftekumsk District in Stavropol Territory, Islam earned his degree in Jazz and Variety Arts (Sax) from the Astrakhan Music College and currently resides in Mineralnye Vody. Islam appeared in two documentaries – Zemlya Lyudei (People’s Land) (TV channel Kultura) and The Peoples of Russia: Heirs of Nogai (filmed with the support from the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs). Islam has directed four documentaries, two shorts and several dozen music videos and commercials. His project Shepot Schastya (The Whisper of Happiness) pitched best in the Russian Film Idea Pitching Contest, resulting in the eponymous short film made jointly the crew composed of Karachay-Cherkess filmmakers, Chechen-Film Company (Grozny), and the Russian Film Group (Moscow). Islam’s second short film V Aktivnom Poiske (Hunting High) had as director and cinematographer Sergei Mokritsky and entered the Official Selection of the Russian National Film Festival Crystal Spring. His documentary Yakub was nominated for the Golden Plate national film award (Tatarstan, Kazan) and shortlisted by the RUSSIAN ELEMENTARY CINEMA Film Festival. Another documentary by Islam Satyrov, Insta-Pastukh (The Insta Shepherd) won the Jury Prize from the Unfiltered Cinema IFF (Minsk, Belarus) and screened at Cine Pobre (La Paz, Mexico) and ASIFF (Lagos, Nigeria)
