Sixteen-year-old Timofey, who has foolishly ended up at a special school, runs away during an away concert to find the only family member he has left — his grandmother, who has stopped replying to his letters. He is followed by Malyok, an eight-year-old street urchin who causes nothing but trouble along the way. The management of the special school conceals the fact of the escape and launches their own pursuit of the runaways. The journey to the village becomes a real ordeal for the boys and helps them to understand what friendship, honesty and justice really mean.
