ALMOST THERE is an intimate road movie aimed at an international audience of arthouse cinema. The film is set in Japan. The story centres on an unexpected encounter between a Japanese man and a man from the Republic of Sakha, who, despite their vastly different backgrounds, find themselves in a similar emotional state. Neither can let go of their past, and they set off for a place where they hope to finally come face to face with it. According to Burnashev, the film is an exploration of male vulnerability, inner conflict and what most often remains unspoken.
