USSR, 1989. Vera, the director of a cultural centre, organises the country’s first beauty contest to help young women believe in themselves and open up new opportunities. But two years later, her dreams are shattered: the Soviet Union is no more, and with it, the funding. To keep the contest going, Vera struggles to find new sponsors. Only then does she realise that her burning desire to change the country through beauty has become a bargaining chip for wealthy businessmen.
