Zhuzha’s world consists of observing from the sidelines, of careful scrutiny and study, but not of interaction. Zhuzha prefers silence to words, and because of this, few people understand her, and so she is not particularly interesting. Unlike her younger sister, the violinist Anka, whose world consists of endless rehearsals, the hustle and bustle of school, and preparations for the looming entrance exams. They are the closest of friends, but everything changes when Zhuzha meets Yura – a deaf boy for whom she becomes a guide, a way of touching the sounds that are inaccessible to him, and, without realising it, she suddenly transforms from a background extra into the heroine of her own story.
