Lida takes care of her sick mother and raises her granddaughter Alissa. Wanting to free herself from at least some of her responsibilities, she decides to place the little girl in an orphanage. Lida is faced with a heart-wrenching choice: her own peace of mind or a happy life for Alissa with her family?
