In a third-class train car from Chelyabinsk to Moscow, Guéna, a forty-year-old man, and Sanok, a young 20-year-old director, meet. Gena goes to meet his dying grandmother in her native backwater, and Sanok goes to the premiere of his film. Gena tricks Sanok into getting off the train with him. Hundreds of kilometers from Moscow, they spend a busy day and a half until the next train. Gena unfolds his entire life before Sanok: the story of his family, his loves, his friendships. Thus, going through all the hardships together, Sanok and Gena become true friends. This chance encounter proves crucial for Sanok, changing his way of seeing the world and determining the theme of his next film.
