Plot synopsis
The Guerassimov family is a large, close-knit family. Pavel is an architect, father of five children, and dreams of having a sixth. The only thing standing in the way of this happiness is the cramped Moscow apartment in which the family lives. Motivated by this obstacle, Pavel designs a residential neighbourhood for large families. The idea of the ‘Ark’ neighbourhood appeals to property developer Lev Borisovich, but only as a means of attracting attention to the project. This presents Pavel with a difficult dilemma: expand his living space by deceiving poor people like himself, or come into conflict with a very important person. The family realises that it cannot compromise its conscience. They sell the flat and leave the city. They move into an old house where Pavel's ancestors once lived and decide to build their own ‘Ark’ with their own hands. This choice transforms the family's life into a real adventure, giving them the strength of a large, united family and the strength of each of its members.
