Plot synopsis

"Offering to the Plowed Field" is a new joint project by artists Sergei Sonin and Elena Samorodova, called a choreographic prayer by the authors.
"Offering to the Plowed Field" is a mystery play, where Sergei Sonin became the author of the idea and libretto, and Elena Samorodova the production designer. Prayer, as we know, is an appeal, a human voice that must be heard and reach heaven, but the authors transform it into silence. We are presented with an alternation of monotonous and dynamic rhythm of the narrative, unfolding in the form of a ritual. The change in tempo and nature of the characters' movement refers simultaneously to the recitative chants of Christians, the church movements of clergy, agrarian cults, and sometimes to the mystical and poetic whirling of dervishes. Here, dance embodies a direct archaic form of human communication with the divine. In this dialogue with the supermundane, a special role is given to the landscape - the Russian arable land, taken out in the title of the work. The author's logic finds its basis in the themes of community, community, conciliarity, traditional for Russian philosophies, which embodies the spiritual existence of the Russian ethnos in the metaphysical flow of world history. The dance is performed by magical creatures, like folk spirits of the earth, embodying an agrarian mystery close to the cult of the dying and resurrecting god. Their dance, a well-thought-out choreography, becomes a ritual, which is designated here as a prayer, an “offering” – as an expiatory sacrifice, so that the heavens do not abandon us and are favorable.
