Plot synopsis
Film maker Vitaly Mansky, of Ukrainian origin but with a Russian passport, returned to his homeland in order to follow closely the development of society after the events at Maidan. As his main observational tool he chose his own extended family, spread throughout Ukraine, from Lviv to Odessa, from Donbass to the annexed Crimea. And while momentous events are taking place in the background (former president Yanukovych flees to Russia, Ukrainians elect a new president), Mansky visits his relatives, lets them speak openly about the situation and comments bluntly on their attitudes. The film offers a unique opportunity to delve into the minds of people whose family relationships and views are being eroded by the difficult past of their homeland and its even more complex present.
