The monarchist Vasily Shulgin and the communist Fridlich Ermler embodied in their time a Russia divided into two irreconcilable ideological camps. Before the judgment of History, that is the name of Ermler's film about Shulgin. But with the change the director could also be placed before the judgment of History.
