During the 42nd session of its General Conference, meeting of November 22, 2023, UNESCO decided to include in its 2024-2025 program the commemoration of the centenary of Sergei Paradjanov. The proposal was jointly put forward by Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine with the support of France, Italy, Lebanon, Cyprus and Poland.

From October 12, 2024 to January 12, 2025, in the Zacheta National Gallery of Arts in Warsaw (Poland), exhibition: Parajanov. I Want to Outrun My Shadow

At the heart of the exhibition dedicated to Parajanov’s work is a selection of scenes from a version of The Color of Pomegranates (original title: Sayat-Nova) — his most important film, completed in 1969 and reconstructed almost half a century later. Known for many years only in a censored, shortened and re-edited version, it is considered a masterpiece of world cinema. The exhibition title, I Want to Outrun My Shadow, was borrowed from a poem by a 18th-century Armenian poet, whose life and work became the main theme of Parajanov’s film.

En novembre 1988, la rétrospective du cinéma géorgien du Centre Pompidou organisée par Jean-Loup Passek en collaboration avec les Cahiers du cinéma et le Festival d’Automne reçoit Serguei Paradjanov et rend enfin possible son rêve : « Mon rêve a toujours été de visiter la France, me promener à pied à Montmartre, voir les gamins courir sur les pavés de Montmartre. Je voulais voir la tombe de Napoléon, la tombe d’Edith Piaf (…) Alors Paris, ça reste un rêve, un rêve d’esthète, d’artiste, de bohème, un rêve et une médecine supérieure (…) Quand je fais un film, je me demande toujours : comment verrait-on cela en France ? » (Propos recueillis en 1987 par Patrick Cazals et Jean Radvanyl).

En collaboration avec le service Cinéma, le LHP reviendra sur ce moment d’histoire avec : Serge Avedikian, Antoine de Baecque, Erik Bullot, Patrick Cazals, Sylvie Pras et les étudiants du LHP

Rencontre suivie à 20h par la projection du film Achik Kérib, conte d’un poète amoureux (1988, 83’). Entrée libre dans la limite des places disponibles
