The story takes place at the beginning of the 19th century. Omar Khan, the absolute ruler of a Georgian district, is a ruthless despot. Having fallen in love with a young woman, Nazme, he murders her husband and adds her to his harem. The children are separated: a widow takes in the daughter, Zari, and a miller adopts the son. He names him Ibrahim and raises him alongside his own son, Goderzi. Twenty years later, fate reunites the mother and children at Omar Khan's estate. They decide to flee with Goderzi, Ibrahim's friend, into the heart of the mountains. But Omar Khan once again interferes in their lives by orchestrating the kidnapping of Zari, Nazme's daughter. Ibrahim and Goderzi then organized a popular uprising against Omar Khan.
