In the Siberian village of Ruslanovka lives the large Smorodnikov family. Their mother died of cancer, and now their five children are raised by an alcoholic father. Over the course of several years, we observe the evolution of the film's protagonist, Andrei Smorodnikov – and before our eyes, a kind and caring child turns into a confused and embittered teenager, indifferent to his life and to what is happening around him.
