The film takes place in the early 50s in a small Siberian village, where the paths and destinies of exiled Latvians, Kalmyks, Russians crossed... A Kalmyk boy, Lidzhi, lives with his grandfather, who goes into the taiga, collects herbs, and treats fellow villagers. One day, the grandfather was arrested on false charges of murder and arson of a farm. Lidzhi was left alone. Many turned away from him, but a Russian girl, Valentina, and his peers helped the boy in difficult times.
